Article on the Secret to Getting Your Black Belt

Hey everyone, Grapple Arts has an article on the secret to getting your black belt.

…It’s really just show the hell up.

It’s showing up on the good days and the bad days- it’s weathering the periods of time where you feel unsure about yourself and a total klutz and you start to wonder about maybe seeing a doctor about your sudden and very noticeable lack of coordination.

It’s about not just physically entering an academy, but also being mentally present, willing to learn, be proven wrong, and a willingness to dust yourself off and try again. When you are open to learn, you have opportunities to improve, even if it may seem like a small improvement, it’s still movement forward, and just one step closer to black belt.

Anyway, check the article out and have a great day everyone!

Article on BJJ Politics

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been reading a good deal about our election, so on a slightly less depressing note let’s talk about a different kind of politics- jiu jitsu politics. It’s a topic that’s still quite divisive and has some weird customs and factions, but less likely to make you feel dejected about the future.

Anyway, check it out and have a great day everyone!

Metamoris 7 Results: Wait, this Happened Already?

I’m going to chalk this up to being up to my eyeballs with work, but I had no idea that Metamoris 7 actually happened.

Anyway, apparently it totally did happen, and it sounds like Tonon caught Ralek Gracie in a toe hold to kneebar submission. Good for him.

Anyway, check out BJJ Heroes for all of the results, and have a great day everyone!

Article on Enson Inoue Re-Promoting Himself to Black Belt

Last week we heard about how Enson Inoue de-moted himself to purple belt because he didn’t feel his skills had evolved with the times, and that it would be more beneficial to work from purple back up to black.

Apparently he spoke to his Sensei John Lewis who offered this key piece of advice to him, ” The comparison is a doctor you reviewed his masters or Ph.D. 20 years ago. Once you receive it, it cannot be undone. Even if medicine has evolved, if the DR. wanted to be updated to the latest medical practices, he would just seek further education.”

I wholeheartedly agree with this statement, and so did Inoue, because now he is back to black belt.

Check out the article on it, and have a great day everyone!

Happy Friday: Puppy Picture Edition

Eh, it’s not really a “Happy Friday” to be honest. There has just been a lot of depressing news lately, so in response I looked for the cutest puppy picture I could find, and here is the fruit of my labor:

Article on Jiu Jitsu’s Mecca

hey guys, BJJ Heroes has an article asking where is Jiu jitsu’s Mecca- according to past tournament results, apparently the answer is either in Sao Paulo or Rio de Janeiro, which makes sense, since (according to Helio Gracie’s Wikipedia page) the first Gracie Academy was in Rio, and in my mind Mecca not only refers to the popular place for something, but also a location that provides history to a particular…thing.

Anyway, check it out, and have a great day everyone!
