I’ve said this a couple of times to those close to me that there are three things I want for them: I want them to be happy, healthy and safe. It’s also assumed that they aren’t hurting others in the process, but you know.
I feel this is applicable to teammates as well: what constitutes as “happy” and “healthy” may differ for everyone, but the spirit remains the same: train, drill, compete, learn, grow- do what you need to do to maintain those three goals. Don’t try to compare yourself to someone else’s plan for what makes them happy, healthy and safe. One size doesn’t fit all- you need to do what works best for you. Training 2 times a week is all you can make? Awesome. Training twice a day every single day? Eh, we’re edging pretty close to not making that healthy or safe requirement, but if done properly I’ll support it.
I think it’s an unspoken wish among teammates- we want one another to be healthy in order to train more, happy because we want everyone to enjoy their experiences on the mat, and safe because we want to make sure we’re all training for as long as possible.
So that is my wish for all of you, my friends: off the mat, and particularly on the mat, please do whatever it is you need to do to be healthy, happy and safe.
That’s all folks- have a great day everyone!
