Dodgeballin’

Tuesday I took a brief reprieve from jiu jitsu and hung out with some friends from college (the ones who run/have a part in Double Windsor Films) playing a game I have not attempted in well over a decade: dodgeball. A nice change to the game from the gym class favorite is the balls we used were made of foam, which are still uncomfortable to be hit by, but a lot less bruisey which works for someone who bruises as easily as I do.

I learned a couple of things on the field: first, I throw like a girl. Which is understandable, given my anatomy and all. And second, jiu jitsu has given me awesome grip strength, so when I got the timing right, I could totally catch the ball and squeeze for dear life, which led to some pretty impressive catches as someone who was a total newbie. Or at least I found them to be impressive.

All in all it was fun: while jiu jitsu is still my main squeeze when it comes to sports, dodgeball was a fun break, a little tryst from martial arts and an opportunity to see friends that I hadn’t spent time with in nearly forever.

I wish I could say I did something super awesome on the 4th, but the fact of the matter was I didn’t get home after dodgeball until about 2am, and the rest of the day was spent napping and just relaxing.

How was everyone else’s Fourth of July?
