So Team training went well yesterday, followed by a good guitar lesson. One thing I wanted to talk about was a topic our instructor/coach John brought up, which was taking vitamins and other supplements for recovery. I’m not talking about the ‘roiding ‘supplements’ I’m talking more about BCAA’s, Glutamine and Glucosamine Chondroitin stuff.
I am not a big fan of supply of supplements: I would rather eat a healthy source of something rather than swallow pills upon pills. There are some however that I agree are pretty essential, and frankly the amount of food it would take to acquire the same amount of the needed nutrient found in food could get a little ridiculous, kind of like that fiber commercial where the woman is eating veggies everywhere she went. Usually I take a multi-vitamin, along with GNC’s Tri-flex (the Glucosamine Chondroitin stuff) for joint health, CLA (Conjugated Lineolic Acid) which is supposed to help burn abdominal fat. I’m sure someone can find a study proving otherwise, but whatever, in my opinion it’s working for me, so I’m going to continue to take it.
I also just found out about glutamine yesterday, aiding in muscle recovery. I took some, and I have to say usually I feel like i need to be scraped off of whatever I land on after training, but this time i actually felt functional. A win!
How do you feel about supplements? Yay? Nay? Get it from from a pill or solely from a more natural source?
